Suspect charged in fatal crash that left man dead in Katy, FBCSO says

KATY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office says a man will be charged with intoxication manslaughter after a fatal accident in the Katy area overnight.

Investigators say 20-year-old Dejon Fortune is in the Fort Bend County Jail after causing a crash that killed 53-year-old Sung Bae.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Mr. Bae as they navigate this heartbreaking loss," Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan wrote in a statement.

Investigators say the crash happened around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday when Fortune hit Bae in the westbound lanes of Westheimer Parkway near Cinco Ranch Boulevard.

A search of online records indicates this is the first charge against Fortune in Fort Bend County.

"Impaired driving continues to claim innocent lives in our community," Fagan wrote. "We urge everyone to make responsible choices and never get behind the wheel while under the influence."
